Online review workshop on “Treasury Operations of Banks” held

Dhaka, 27 October, 2021:
A half day long online review workshop was held at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) on 27 October, 2021. Mr. Ahmed Jamal, Chairman of BIBM Executive Committee and Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank was present in the review workshop as the chief guest. Mohammed Sohail Mustafa CFA, Associate Professor & Director (Training & Certification Program) of BIBM delivered welcome address. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Director General of BIBM Chaired the Program. 

A paper titled " Treasury Operations of Banks " was presented in the workshop by Md. Nehal Ahmed, Professor (Selection Grade) and Director (Dhaka School of Bank Management) of BIBM. Other members of the research team are Dr. Md. Shahid Ullah, Associate Professor of BIBM; Reefat Zaman Shourov, Lecturer of BIBM; Aminur Rahman Chowdhury, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Bank; Mehdi Zaman, Deputy Managing Director of Eastern Bank Limited; Arequl Arefeen, Executive Vice President of Bank Asia Limited.


Dr. Barkat-e-Khuda, Dr.  Muzaffer Ahmad Chair Professor of BIBM & Former  Professor of Dhaka University; Ali Hossain Prodhania, Former Managing Director & CEO of Bangladesh Krishi Bank; Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid, Managing Director & CEO of NCC Bank Limited made comments as designated discussants.

Deputy Governor said that to keep the economy and society functioning in the Covid-19 pandemic, governments are now relying on banks to support their efforts. Banks need to work closely with governments and central banks to speed up both monetary and fiscal policy implementation. The role of banks now sits in the center of governments’ efforts to keep the economy functioning he added.
Director General of BIBM said, findings of the study along with opinions and observations will help stakeholder to take future actions.
A good number of participants including senior bank executives, academicians, media representatives, faculty members of BIBM took part in the online review workshop.
